The Casino of Hunger. How the banks and the speculation influentiate on the price of food

On this publication, the Casino of Hunger, we explain through different collaborations what the food speculation is and its consequences, the existing regulations like the directive MIFID II and which lines should be followed in order to limit the impacts of the speculation on the most vulnerable populations.

2.000 million of people use more than 50 % of their incomes to acquire food. Any kind of variation of its price can be devastating for these famlies. The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, FAO, points out that 800 millions of people starve, according to records on 2015. The reasons for such a dramatic situation can be found in the financial markets and in an agri-food system whose goal is to make profitable big companies and not the production of food for the population.
